The Challenge
Noosa District SHS challenged us to convert their existing special education unit into a flexible learning area, providing a space for staff and general learning plus a withdrawal space for disengaged students.
Located at the centre of the school campus with restricted access, the project faced tight budget constraints and a time-sensitive schedule, compounded by the need to maintain unhindered shared access to the adjacent teaching block. Despite these challenges, our persistent efforts, effective planning, and collaborative approach ensured the successful delivery of another project for Noosa District SHS.
The Solution
We facilitated safe staff and student access through an alternate route, streamlining coordination for trades and deliveries via a dedicated site entrance. We minimised disruptions by scheduling noisy activities outside of school hours and planning service disruptions during holidays.
The Design team successfully integrated staff preparation, general learning, and flexible learning areas, creating a versatile teaching space that enhances timetable scheduling for both staff and students. The project resulted in a newly refurbished teachers’ preparation area, a general learning space, and a flexible learning area.
