The Challenge
Honeywill undertook the substantial expansion and upgrade of Murgon SHS, involving the construction of three new buildings and two Multipurpose Courts on an active school site. Coordinating these construction projects while the school continued normal operations presented a considerable challenge. Close attention was crucial to minimise disruption to school activities amid such widespread construction activity.
The Solution
Meticulous planning was crucial for the success of the expansion at Murgon SHS. We integrated the design seamlessly into the school site and ensured safe access for students and staff.
High-risk activities and services reticulation were scheduled during student-free times to limit disruption. Engaging with local community leaders in the Indigenous community allowed the incorporation of local artwork into the facilities, reflecting the community’s values.
Despite challenges like torrential rainfall and material shortages during the COVID pandemic, the delivery team successfully handed over a Multipurpose Sports Hall, a new Administration Building, and a Community Hub, providing a defined Sports precinct, improved entry, and essential services for students and the local community.
