The Challenge
The project team was tasked with transforming a two-story, outdated administration block into a functional executive and student services space. They faced challenges as the initial brief expanded to include both the ground and first floors.
Located strategically at the front of the school, the construction site posed unique challenges, requiring disabled access to the first floor without a passenger lift and impacting school pick-up and drop-off zones.
Discoveries of severe termite damage and asbestos during construction added complexity, requiring the construction team to adapt to time constraints and budget limitations while overcoming difficulties securing trades for timely and budget-conscious completion.
The Solution
The collaborative efforts of Project Managers, Architects, the School, and the Department of Education were instrumental in transforming an impractical space into a purposeful administration area focusing on staff well-being at Chatsworth State School.
Despite being a smaller school outside Gympie, the project team closely aligned with the school’s vision, resulting in a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and inviting administrative space.
The project, completed in 2023, navigated potential disruptions through open communication, addressing latent conditions seamlessly. Despite obstacles, the project delivery team exhibited resilience, ensuring another successful delivery.
