The Gap State High School – Sports Hall

The project called for the design and construction of a multi-purpose sports hall at The Gap State High School. The facility consists of three multi-sports courts, a staff room, change rooms and amenities, a kiosk, a gym a weights area, a cardio centre and a viewing deck.

Its purpose is to provide a large covered multi-purpose hall with sports facilities, including basketball, netball, badminton and volleyball with a weights gym and cardio centre on the upper level.

The building was constructed on a battered site over an existing tennis court. Access is via the school and the building is adjacent to residential homes.

The large portal frame construction allows for large spans and high ceilings, with pre-finished cladding and synthetic sports floor ensuring easy maintenance. Large roof vents and glass louvers deliver cross flow ventilation and abundant natural light.

The project was delivered using a traditional procurement method, with a full bill of quantities allowing detailed client requirements to be incorporated into the design. A schedule of costs for contract administration was also provided.

The project was conducted in a live school environment where safety of students was paramount.
